Case Study

Deben Fields

A project for public protection, site security and people management.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Location: Deben fields, Felixstowe.

Sector:  Main Contractor

Contract Amount:  £62,410.00

Background: We were asked by Kier Construction to provide a quotation via tender for hoarding to the complete perimeter of the site, matching their specified colours. This included the installation of existing block and mesh temporary fencing. As it was a complete new build site, hoarding was required to protect the public from ongoing construction activities, control who enters and exits the worksite, and the safety of construction materials.

Solution: We installed hoarding around the entire area, including strengthening an existing hoarding fence, and painted it to match Kier’s specified colours. Additionally, we installed their signage and created viewing panels using Perspex in four areas. We installed a pedestrian gate with a digital lock coded to the site manager's access code, and a set of double leaf vehicle gates which were powder-coated in Kier’s colours to suit their branding, following Kier Constructions design.

During installation, we overcome challenges such as a tight turn in the road that hindered visibility. To address this, we modified the corner to an angled shape and installed a curved mirror to enhance visibility for both vehicles and pedestrians. We also added a separate set of gates to create an opening in the existing chain-link, allowing for extra storage and use as a car park while maintaining clear access to the road.

Extras include installing internal hoarding around the site offices and a fence up to the turnstile with face recognition to restrict access to authorised personnel only.

Furthermore, we have created a canopy/roof area for an external meeting space for black hat supervisors, providing additional outside space for pre-start meetings, adding a section to the fencing for a notice board.

What we installed:

  • 2.4m High hoarding for the entire perimeter of the site.

  • 4 Viewing Panels.

  • 1 Vehicle Gate.

  • 1 Pedestrian Gate.

  • 1 Curved mirror for vehicle route

  • 1 Vehicle site gate within existing fence, creating more car parking spaces.
