Case Study
Bungay High School
A project for staff vehicle protection, planting areas, and building security.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Location: Bungay, Norwich.
Sector: Main Contractor/Education
Contract Amount: £43,620.00
Background: The main contractor asked us to provide a quotation for the project which involved three separate areas. Firstly, there was a new overflow car park located near the playing field. The concern was that stray balls might come over the fence and damage the cars. In this case, the client didn’t require a security fence, but rather a design solution to stop the balls crossing into the car park area. Secondly, they requested that we install knee rail fencing to safeguard the planting areas located between the buildings. The third area needed to be secured, as it was left open and exposed to the public.
Solution: For the overflow car park we successfully designed a solution that consisted of a 3 metre high Chain Link fence with an extra 3 metres of netting above it, which included a double gate with strained lined wires. Finding a contractor to execute this particular design was a challenge for them, but we have the capability and managed to resolve it, effectively solving their problem. We Installed Knee Rail around the flowerbeds to protect the plants. The architect’s specification required all corners to be mitred, ensuring no sharp edges were left. The timber had to be tailored on-site which was difficult but the finish was a great success. For the third area, we installed 868 Twin Wire Mesh as a line of protection to prevent public access around the side of the building. During installation, we encountered an issue due to the unforeseen steep gradient of the ground. To address this, we adjusted the gate to close off the gaps underneath, a challenge we overcame by neatly adding extra pieces of steel, colour matched to finish.
What we installed:
6 Metre high ball-stop netting.
3 Metre high chain-link fencing.
1.8 Metre high open-mesh steel fencing.
1 Pedestrian gate.
2 Vehicle gates.
