Case Study

Greensted Primary & Nursery

Upgrading the school's fencing systems and access control to enhance safety.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Location:  Basildon, Essex.

Sector:  Building Consultants/Schools

Contract Amount:  £262,000

Background: Greensted had several low-level fences around the school, including one along a public footpath. However, there were concerns about the visibility through the fencing in some areas, particularly the nursery side. Additionally, it was easy to gain access to the school's grounds through the car park. The school's CCTV system was outdated, and the balustrade to the ramped areas required replacement.

Solution: We replaced all existing fencing with new 2m high security fencing, including clearing shrubs and removing trees as needed. Gates with access control and ducting were also installed. The MUGA fencing was renewed, and balustrades for the ramps were replaced. Upgrades to the school's CCTV system were made, including installation of new cameras for internal and external monitoring on the junior side, as well as external monitoring for the infant side. Access control for both internal and external areas on the junior side was also updated with the Paxton Net2 system.

What we installed:

  • 2m High 358 mesh fencing with gates to perimeter elevations and internal areas.

  • 2m ‘Combi’ fencing combining V-Mesh fencing with timber slats to prevent people from looking through the fence.

  • 1.1m high balustrade to ramps.

  • Various vehicle and pedestrian gates.

  • Removed existing MUGA and installed 3m high 868 mesh version.

  • Access control to 2 gates with intercoms with video and proximity readers.

  • All required ducting.

  • Extensive CCTV, internally and externally with extra monitors including a camera on a post that covers the MUGA area.

  • Access control throughout the building and externally to both.
