Background: The principal contractor requested that we provide a cost estimate for the Fencing package. This is a residential Special School for boys aged 10-16 who have an EHCP for social, emotional, and mental health problems. They have an existing school but wanted to expand it, so they had a new building constructed, which needed to be secured throughout. They required fencing that was tall and difficult to climb, to ensure the safety of the children. They also needed a privacy area to shield the pupils from external view and access-controlled gates. Additionally, they included some 3m high Chain Link fencing and the reinstallation of an existing ornate gate. The specification was put together by the architect, and our competitive price resulted in us winning the contract.

Solution: We secured the required areas by supplying 3m High 358 Mesh fencing both internally and externally throughout the site, along with all the necessary gates. This type of fencing is tall and very difficult to climb, ensuring the safety of the children. For the privacy area, we installed 3m high closeboard fencing, which is unusually high. However, we designed it with extra-large posts to accommodate this requirement. To facilitate site setup, we installed the site front entrance gates and re-erected the existing ornate gates. We supplied gates that were ready for the access control contractor to connect. In one area, we removed 40m of 3m high chain-link fencing and posts, replacing it with new galvanised chain-link fencing. To support the main contractor, we relocated temporary steel hoarding to different areas of the site at different stages of the contract. We also added extra 3m High 358 mesh fencing to internal areas as an addition to the contract.

The project was completed on time and within budget.
